Gym episode 12/03: Early bird

Got to the gym early enough Saturday to be able to use the foam roller for a good enough period before going on the elliptical. I only did 6 minutes I think, because I had Pilates at 9 and wanted to get in a good weight session.

That I did, inspite of having a sore throat and sniffles.

The Trainer was not so concerned. I just had to get on with it.

Pilates saved me from cardio at the end. Sunday, I would pay, surely.
I stocked up on Steelcut Oats in preparation. Looking forward to a long session with Damion Daniel on Sunday since I wouldn’t have to rush off anywhere.

Gym episode 28/02: Happy Sunday

Well after two workouts Friday plus party in the night, you really didn’t expect me to be in the gym on Saturday, did you?? No sah! Besides, it was a good way to get back to a Sunday workout. I had told the Trainer I would do cardio, tai chi and yoga, but when I got to the gym the room was in use.

When I got to the gym the Trainer was also there. Pleasant surprise. On Saturday I had written on Facebook that I was hoping he was not going to be at the gym and I could have wormed my way out of the treadmill. Sadly, that was not to be. He was doing his own workout with some heavy heavy heavy weights. He passed me warming up on the elliptical and said “work harder”. I told him he wasn’t allowed to speak with me because we did not have a session. He ignored me when later, after I had finished the elliptical, he asked what I was going to do next. Upper body, sir.

He: You did the treadmill already? Me: No….I’ll do it after. He then firmly said “no, do it now.” Ok champion body builder. I hauled my butt upstairs meekly. Did 15 minutes, some at 15% and some at 10%.

50 habits or things I’d like to accomplish by my 50th birthday #50To50

October 22, 2016. That is THE significant date.

It seems like just yesterday that I was planning my 40th birthday celebration. At that time, I got into milestone-mode about a year before the birthday. I had decided on the theme ‘Fit, Fabulous and Forty,’ so the time leading up to October 22, 2006 was spent mostly giving updates about my exercise regimen and the struggles I was having avoiding food that didn’t fit in with the theme. Somehow, I managed to be at the weight that would allow me to boogie down without my bits jiggling at the fete on the hill (thanks Patch!) the night before my birthday.

This time, because things take loooooonger when you are older, I had hoped to start the countdown much earlier. But….because one is older, it takes a while to get moving! No, it’s not that. I have just been busy…..

The rationale behind the list is that time passes and it cannot be recaptured.  I am reminded of this when I look back in my old journals. I also like to do significant things. Things which matter. Goal setting has also been in my repertoire since I was much younger. [Note: Don’t ask if I have stuck to the goals :(].

50_to_50

Between now and October 22, I hope to tick off several things on my ‘50 to 50’ list. I’ve mostly had them in my head, so when a friend recently asked me what are some of the things I had on the list, I was so sure they were stored somewhere on this laptop. Nupe. So I got writing.

I’ll post what I have so far and you are welcomed to help me choose the last few. Then over the next couple of months, I will do a blog post on the context behind each one. Because with me, there is always context. A root cause.

I like to compartmentalize my life so I first started with 5 categories (Health & Fitness, Fashion, Lifestyle, Learning & Development and Other) and tried to get 10 things for each. Then I threw that out of the window. Goes along with my theme for 2016 which is “doh beat up.” I first heard a friend with this expression. It comes from a Grenada soca song. Continue reading

Following #TheFollowing

This is not normally my kind of show. Gruesome murders. Multiple in fact. Season 1 was a killer…pun intended. But I have stuck with The Following on Fox, starring Kevin Bacon. I can’t tell you what movies Bacon starred in and I can’t recall how I got to start watching it. Oh. I think it was a friend on Facebook who posted about it when Season 1 had just started.

Every Monday night I was glued. The writing is good, the acting is great and the casting crew really did a good job. All the characters are believable. Tonight was the premiere of Season 3. Just enough to whet the appetite.

Usually after The Following on Fox, I would then turn to The Nanny. Needed something light and trivial to get the gruesomeness out of my mind. But no Nanny, so the news will have to do.

Do you watch The Following? If not, you should start following The Following on Fox.

I’m A Dreamer

I’m a Dreamer, but not in the sense implied in this song (which is an awesome addition to any gym music playlist by the way).  Most nights when I close my eyes to sleep, I dream. Sometimes it’s a dream with one theme; at other times, it’s several vignettes which may or may not have interlocking themes. And my dreams are always in colour.

This is the most recent edition, and it’s the vignette variety. I jotted them down as I woke up this morning, otherwise as the day wears on, I forget. Completely.
