In Grenada, crime actually goes down!

While I've been here, I've read and watched on TV that crime has gone down. Can you imagine that happening in Jamaica? What a wonderful thing that would be.

Here in Grenada, they had 14 murders in 2002. In 2004, that figure had declined to 6! All other crimes were down as well, including rape and theft.

I believe that Hurricane Ivan, although devastating on material property, will turn out in the long run to be a blessing for this country. Many life lessons have been learnt. Perhaps one of those is that it's senseless to kill another person.

Hard as it is to admit...we have weeks where we surpass the 14 figure in Ja! Sigh.

Not to look for the negative or the downside to this, but it could also just mean that less crimes are actually being reported, even though they still actually occur.

Yes the killing in Jamaica is so sad. It has a lot of people I know living in fear, as people kill nowadays for the most trivial of reasons. And often the don't kill one person but whole families. It is sad indeed.

Jamaica is the inverse, crime just keeps increasing. In fact the crime figure has exceeded last year's figure.

thats actually great news

Well, if that was a government report, I'd question it. Heaven knows where they get those figures from a lot of the time.

However, I must agree that seriously violent crime is not terribly common in Grenada. The only blessing of Ivan is that people have far too much to worry about to be picking fights with others. There were two murders this year that really shocked the country though: a man who killed a little boy who was gathering rabbit food on his property, and a drake (junkie) who decapitated another drake accidentally during a friendly planass.

Whats a planass?

I think a planass is like you having a fight with a cutlass? Ying Yang, correct me if I am wrong.

A planass is a lash/blow using the broad side of a cutlass rather than the sharp edge

GRENADA IS A LOVELY ISLAND. I THINK WE ARE ONE OF THE MORE CIVILISED ISLANDS,THEREFORE WE ARE MORE FOCUSED ON DECENT LIVING THEREFORE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WILL HAVE LITTLE TIME TO THINK OF CRIME.
