This is how I see it...

Variety is the spice of life so you got to try and have as many experiences as possible. Nuh true?

That has been my philosophy for a while now. I always thought to myself that this world has over 100 countries, so why should I spend all my life in one? Hence the move to Grenada, something which so many people told me I was very brave as a single woman to do. That's not brave....that's just living out the "variety is the spice of life" philosophy.

Then too, me grabbing the opportunity to do the writing that I do for Caribbean Cricket was also a part of that. (Go to the site now....I have two articles up right now. One interview was with Andrew Richardson and the other with Trinidadian Dwayne Bravo)

Also deferring university enrollment last August to go work for the 'Aliens Hotels & Resorts' fit in with my motto.

You should try it sometime. As one of the sayings at the bottom of my emails goes ....

"We give away the treasures of life and the potential for finding true happiness, for the sake of staying in our comfort zone".

I've moved out of my comfort zone, and I've found many many treasures in life and am truly happy (would be only happier if I could lose some more pounds).

So for 2004, your resolution, or one of them, could be that you are going to stop maintaining the status quo, rather, challenge it, move out of your comfort zone and the sameness that one's life tends to take on after a while, and bingo....happiness will be yours.

Be quided by this..

I like the philosophy here. For many (including myself as well) who like a certain constancy to life, we may find leaving the comfort zone challenging and fear it to a certain degree. Then again, if you never leave the comfort zone to explore other horizons you won't know what else is out there....and surprisingly we may sometimes find that what is out there is BETTER than what we have now. So, I agree, sometimes you have to take life by the horns and adopt that attitude that my father sometimes uses, "Who live, live, who dead, dead!"

Great, so what is going to be your first "outside the zone" activity etc?

Great philosophy. Actually it was almost like a psychic moment for me reading your comments on comfort zones because it was something that was on my mind all weekend. Comfort sometimes leads to a malaise which deters us from moving on and finding true fulfillment.

So add that to your new years resolutions. Move out of your comfort zones.

Not sure yet Mich.

I guess this one was for me huh??? Ok, I've added it to my New Year's resolutions..actually, it's the only resolution.

that's really hard. What if it doesn't work out? Should one seek after other 'new horizons' or crawl back, to the familiar arms of the comfort zone.... if it will have 'im back?

Help ! I'm just about to leave my comfort zone - After 3 years in OZ doing a job that i can now do with my eyes closed, we will be packing our bags in July and moving to Berlin for the next 3 year adventure - even more scary is that I am applying for a job that I will need to speak and read German at a reasonable level so i will have to study German for 6 months first before i start working - I am too old to go back to all that studying/exams nonsense - really dont like it - so I think I could be taking on too much this time round - cross your fingers for me - That's all - "Auf Wiedersehen"!

I loved the comment about moving out of the comfort zone. I as you know am taking a huge step out myself, but I am embracing the challenge.

Jane, let me remind you about that job where we met in Jamaica, which you hadn't done before either. Just think back to how well you learnt that one and you'll be fine in Berlin! (How exciting that you're moving around like that. Re studying German, best thing to do is to get out in the streets, and practice in the bakery, the supermarket etc. At least they are not like French people, they will not laugh at you.

Mr Endicon, if you try it and it don't work? Nothing every "doesn't work". You just put it down to an addition to your life's experience.

Rissa, you'll be fine, and will enjoy every moment of it. The first couple of months will be a bit rocky, getting accustomed to unfamiliar territory, but after that you'll feel like this was what you were born to do!
