Was in the line behind two Campion College girls. They looked to be in about 2nd form.
Girl 1: I don't care what my mother says, I'm moving from Jamaica next year. I don't see why I should spend more than 13 years of my life in this country, and miss seeing my little sister grow up.
(Apparently her mother lives in the USA)
Girl 1: My mother says she is not getting me a credit card before I have a bank account first. And she says she is putting away money so I can have a good education. She says she wants me to have opportunities.
Girl 2: My mother opened a bank account for me so I could buy what I want.
It would be interesting to see what becomes of these girls in about 5 years time. Oh, they were talking about boys too, naturally. I can't say that I knew what boys were at age 13! How times have changed.
It must be old age.

I won't say that I was ever a wild teenager (probably spent a bit too much time on schoolwork rather than running down skirt...) and I certainly never gave my parents any heartache, but I don't think I'm any worse off today.
What would a 13 year old be doing with a credit card?? No pickney of mine at that age would have one.
Problem is I feel that many parents are teaching their offspring the wrong values and the MTV, music videos, dance hall etc that they are exposed to is making it worse.
Nutten wrong with the good old way in which I was brought up....and I had freedom within limits as well.
Trus me....is not old you getting old at all.

Yes, we were brought up around the same time. While listening to the girls I was thinking that what they were talking about was not anything like what we used to talk about at St Hugh's
Posted by: Michelle at January 31, 2004 09:20 PMTV is a big influence. But what about the times I (we) spent doing other things? Music lessons, or swimming after school, badminton. Church camps, other church related activites such as learning songs, plays, poems to compete islandwide. Those take rehearsals, interaction with other persons; time which cannot be spent in front of the black box. TV is an easy/convenient/cheaper/babysitter.
