Early Morning Blues

As predicted, I got about two hours sleep Thursday night. Wha fi do? Cyan do nuttin. So I hurried myself as fast as I could, to leave for the airport in good time. Reached to POS airport about 55 minutes before the flight was due to depart. Long line. Then they called people from my flight to come forward. Got checked in in good time, only to be told that I am overweight. Yes, I know that, by about 30 pounds, well 31 - after that Haagen Dazs the night before. Oh, the luggage you mean.

So I tell the agent that it's the same two cases I travelled with from Spice Isle to Calypso Land last month and didn't have to pay any overweight. The lady probably wanted to do at least one thing right for the day, so she held my luggage and told me I had to speak to the LIAT rep. I was in no mood to argue. Hell, I was still half asleep.

The scrawny lad told me I had to pay. First time in my life I have had to pay overweight. That's why you mustn't travel pon dem si-mall airlines you know. US$34.00 to brute.

Then to make matters worse, I had had to wait long time to reach up to scrawny fella. "This is a final boarding call for all passengers on LIAT flight 310". Lawks. Now I hadda rush. Steupps. Reach to the place to pay departure tax. Long line. One person collecting money! More steupps. I just walked up to the top of the line. It's understood in these situations. Nobody says "go jine di line" to you. Imbecciles. How dem must have one person collecting tax????

Well I made it on the flight. Only to be sat next to a lady who was about twice my size. Got a neck ache from having to lean over into the aisle while reading the newspapers. The people at the airline counter should remember who they put to sit in which seat and make sure and match scrawny with overweight. Anyway, good thing is only a half hour flight.

Although the weather was a bit iffy, the flight was smooth and the landing even smoother. I had had dinner with the co-pilot the last time he was in Trini and he remembered me from then, so after the flight I went and told him what a good one it was. Really smooth landing. No bumping at all.

Arrived at the hotel with some others who were on the same flight, after sailing through immigration and customs. That's why I always like coming back here. They don't give you no hassle, unlike Trinidad.

Slept the whole day, and when I say the whole day, I mean the whole day. Tucked myself under the blanket at about 7:30am, woke at about 12:30pm, emptied my bladder, went back to sleep and woke at about 3:45pm. It felt good I tell you.

Well consequence was me not falling asleep early Friday night, and that carrying over to Saturday night. Heck, look what time I am doing these postings!!!!!!

I remeber travelling back to London once (was there as a poor Doc on what I call 'student salary'! If I spent 30 pounds at Tesco's I got an instant headache!)

Join the Virgin Atlantic check in line in Miami airport (bwoy did I love that airline over BA), when I reach the counter the very smartly dressed and I might add polite guy says, "Sir, this suitcase weighs 96 pounds!" Me shame like dawg. Anyway, luckily, I had a small duffle bag in the suitcase and was able to take out some of the stuff.

Motto of the story, don't travel transatlantic wid nuff weight. Worse when you travelling solo, your back pays for it after.

heh heh

I always weight my luggage before going to the airport. A bathroom scale usually gives me a ballpark figure
