Indian food....yum

Had roti, pholourie, katchorie, and some sauce made out of pomme cythere, plus another thing starting with S and made from dasheen and spinach. Can't remember. All very delicious. Indian food is my favourite food apart from Caribbean food.

Must have some ice cream in the next few days. I remember being in Surrey and ordering in Indian food from The India restaurant. They used to sell the small tubs of Haagen Dazs, so my treat would be the food (tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, roti skin and basmati rice usually) plus a small tub of Cookies 'N Cream. I will make another trip to Ellerslie Plaza in the next few days to see if they have any Cookies ' N Cream yet. Then I'll have to find more Indian food to eat it with...for old times sake.

I got into Indian food when I was in England...it beat the British food for flavour with ease. Tandoori chicken and curried vegetables is tasty.

I miss Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream so much. I use to buy Baskin Robbins the other day, which is okay but not as good. Bwoy mi deh pon a serious diet now though, so I haven't had any ice cream in almost 2 months. I work out really hard at the gym and cannot afford to gain back the weight I've lost by having ice cream. My alternative: any fruit available. Guineps, june plums, cane, melon woulda kill mi.

Dr D, Natalie and I did not eat British food too tough at all. We both used to cook our own food. British food is nothing to write home about.

The snacks you had were saheenas. They're nice, but they do tend to scratch the throat. I prefer samosas myself.

It's interesting that you would categorise "Indian" food as distinct from "Caribbean" food. The cuisines that originated in the Indian communities in places like Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname and to a lesser extent Jamaica are not Indian in a pure sense, but hybrid cuisines. They're quite distinct from what you would find in India, which is also different from what you'd find in the "Indian" restaurants in the UK and the US.

Things such as doubles in Trinidad, curried goat in Jamaica and the various "curry-stew" dishes that exist are uniquely Caribbean, all part of what I would call Caribbean-Indian cuisine, and not really Indian at all.

Johnathan, you have to forgive me. anything with curry in it is indian for me! but yes, i know what you mean.

i remember asking an indian person about roti and they looked at me strangely. and when i was ordering the indian food in the uk and asking them for roti skins, they were clueless. and they didnt make dahl roti either. bad thing. i like to eat that kind by itself. yum.
