In praise of the Single Life

Le Weekend. Rent a jeep. Do nothing, or do it all. You one and the universe. So here's what I did.

SATURDAY

Got the jeep at 10:00am. Signed up the papers, and the guy asked if I wanted the insurance, then he remembered that I lived here so he said "you accustomed to the roads man, you don't really need this". I'm thinking to myself now that this would just be the day when I bang up into something, or worse....fall into one of them there drains on the side of the road!

Well neither happened thankyouverymuch.

Had called a friend just after I got the jeep and he needed a ride from the gas station where he was getting his autographed bimmer washed. Picked him up, dropped him home and headed up River Road, took a right into Tempe, drove through Mt Parnassus and up to St Pauls. Cut through La Borie and ended up in Calivigny. Checked out a few houses....as if....but you know the West Indian thing - drive around and look at people's houses - only thing it wasn't Sunday.

Oh no! I forgot my towel! And if I am going to dabble my yamfeet in some clear sea water, then I need a towel. So headed back to the hotel. Parked up the jeep, and while walking into the hotel, I see another friend. Said he saw me driving. I tell you, if you want to keep your visit private, don't go out pon di road inna one si-mall highland. Went upstairs, intending just to pick up the towel and hit the road. But I hit the bed instead. I was pooped. Spice Sun drunk me. Slept only for one hour though.

Back out on the road, I headed St David's side, so past Calivigny, Westerhall Point (posh houses out there) and drove into the Marina. Just look at all them boats. You know, when I was younger, I didn't know that the boat bottom was shaped as it is. Afterall, any picture one drew, had the boat having a flat bottom init. So imagine my surprise when Miss Annlong drew a boat one day and it had this pointed piece! You live and you learn.

So these boats are on dry dock, being cleaned, repaired or whatever.

After the marina next stop down the road was this place. Beautiful new addition to the accommodation choice in Grenada. Well it's not fully open yet. No tv, no pool. Those were the ongly reasons I was not spending Saturday night there (20% discount off US$250 for the night....money is a transient thing). Had a bowl of soup. Restaurant very tastefully done. So too the cottage. Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, nice. Get the picture?

Headed to La Sagesse afterwards, to look at their new rooms. Cheese to Chalk. Or it should be Chalk to Cheese. Whatever. And the beach rough. So what's the pull? Dunno.

OK, time to head back. Reached around 5:45pm. Got ready to go by a Jamaican/Grenadian couple to talk to their daughter about the hotel industry as she is (was) thinking of it as a career.

After that, it was a loverly dinner at my former place of employment with a gorgeous view of St George's which was lit up from the lights on at the football stadium. Grenada was playing Cayman I think. So said the owner of the autographed bimmer.

SUNDAY was a drive up to Hermitage to do an interview which you wil read on here

Oh, about the advice that I gave the personable young lady. Once you enter the industry, just tell yourself that you will be single for a looooooooooooong time. (But if you are, these are the things you can do with your weekends)

All these names of places in Grenada come tripping off your fingers and I still regret the rain that fell the week I was there.....even though we went driving around, I don't remember the name of anywhere!

The movie theatre where there were all of 3 people (Loraine, Michelle and Alex) watching the double bill movie, the new stadium of course, the lovely little restaurant overlooking the harbour, the rich people's enclave where we saw that lizard like creature that was as big as a small dog! Names fail me now, but good memories of a very beautiful little island.

I'll have to go back soon I guess.
