Just back from the supermarket here in Grenada. As the cashier started to ring up the items, instinctly I moved towards the end of the counter and was about to take a bag off the rack to start packing. Remember my Sainsbury stress? How nice to see a bag boy!
First world supermarket in a third world country.
Posted by yamfoot at August 21, 2003 09:11 PMheh heh, same thing all over the Caribbean eh ?
We also have to pump our own gas in North America, here in Jamaica we just drive up, relax and have a pump attendant pump gas, check engiene, the works...
How long you staying in Grenada?
Posted by: Dale at August 23, 2003 04:30 PMTrue ting my girl.
I remember when I did my one year stint in London and had to pack mi own groceries in the Tesco's in Elephant and Castle....(where it seemed like only the rif raf of London shopped)!
Yes indeed, we may be 'Third World' here in the Caribbean but we do have packers in the supermarket. And, as DSale above mentioned, it is not often (I can't tell when last) that I had to pump my own gas either.
Will try to visit later and see what else you have to say bout Grenada having passed chru there for about 4 days in November last.

Posted by: Dr. D. at August 24, 2003 08:24 PMBwoy, is a good thing the Doc. could tell me what was meant by Sainsbury stress... It sounded English, but I wasn't sure... Hey Michmac, remember tokeep an eye peeled for a "proper" job for the I, ok? I need to do the island hopping thing too.
Posted by: Dr. D. at August 25, 2003 06:12 PMthey always need jobs here. i think only one dermatologist is on the island. they bring in cuban doctors for other areas too. opportunities abound. you just have to make the decision to get up, pack up, and leave (easier if you're like me and have no attachments or kids!)
Posted by: Michelle at August 25, 2003 07:26 PMof course you know i meant "they always need Doctors here"!
Posted by: Michelle at August 25, 2003 09:52 PMSomehow that comment above wasn't posted by me. At least, I don't remember posting it. Anyway, they actaully have two Derms there Michelle.
Posted by: Dr. D. at August 25, 2003 10:50 PMThe post had me confused for real.
